about

Blvck Spvde and The Cosmos release new single and music video in anticipation of their set at Music At The Intersection.

"Doom" is the first release from their forthcoming EP recorded Live at Blank Space in St. Louis MO.

ST. LOUIS, Sept. 1st, 2023

Blvck Spvde and the Cosmos are self-described as “the evolution of what you think jazz is.” The ten-plus piece band is ever-evolving. Rooted to the many branches of black music, the group’s essence and mission is spiritual: to be an open channel for music of the universe to flow through…to invite voices of ancestors back into the room, and to play their part in creating many pieces of heaven on earth.

If you don’t know him already, Blvck Spvde is a multi-disciplinary artist whose decades of work in music and fashion has garnered him high levels of respect in the underground. Some of your favorite artists sing his praises.

His experience and vision leads the spaceship that is the Cosmos into musical territory that blends past and future. An experimental producer by trade, Spvde’s music is a constant flip on the old, upcycled into the new.

“The Cosmos” is apt as the band’s title, as if each member is its own planet or star with unique elements and orbits. Dig deep into any of the member’s individual art and you’ll find yourself on a worthy sidequest. “The Cosmos’” music is essentially the result of these forces of nature coming together.

After several years since forming and performing on stages around the Midwest, the Cosmos are releasing their debut in preparation of their set on one of St. Louis’ premiere festivals, Music at the Intersection.

Their lead single “Doom” is the first track from a live recording session performed to an intimate audience of friends and family. The session is a follow through from their energized set as co-headliners of the debut Laz Jazz festival held on July 15th, 2023 in St. Louis. Brothers Lazaroff, a St. Louis based roots band led by brothers Jeff and David Lazaroff produced the festival and wanted to cement the energy of the inaugural event in stone by inviting the Cosmos back for a follow up performance but this time to capture it on record.

The music and video was recorded on August 6, 2023 at “Blank Space,” a venue on the Southside of St. Louis co-owned by Spvde himself. “Doom” signifies the official launch of “Blvck Spvde and the Cosmos” into the digital stratosphere and the band would like to officially welcome you aboard for the journey ahead.
